NZ Visual Diary - entry 107
distressed house - Auckland suburb
In an otherwise well-kept neighbourhood, this house is an anomaly. It has been neglected for considerable time.
Against the backdrop, however, of its disrepair and the presence of an unsightly corrugated metal roof within a neighbourhood of homes that feature ceramic tile roofs, this house reveals hints of past beauty.
The decorative wood above the front window to the immediate right of the front door as well as the ornamental brackets below both windows on the righthand side of the house speak to a less ignoble past.
That the house hasn’t been renovated or torn down and replaced with new construction is perplexing, especially at the current time in which Auckland’s housing shortage has escalated housing prices.
