detail - The Vulcan Buildings
One might be forgiven for returning again and again to Vulcan Lane, a side street off of Queen Street in Auckland Central.
The architecture that adorns Vulcan Lane is exquisite. The charm of the narrow passage connecting Queen Street to High and O’Connell Streets is also a vexation for an architectural photographer. The upper floors of the buildings on Vulcan Lane are very difficult to photograph without a tilt-shift lens, a drone with camera mounts or a friend who lives in one of the upper-floor apartments along the lane and is willing to let you photograph from a lane-facing window.
All three solutions are beyond my reach.
Furthermore, large curbside trees on the Queen Street-fronting facade obscure much of the building. The image here details that portion of the Queen Street facade not hidden behind leafy green.
I will try again . . . on a day when rain has not forced me to seek shelter . . . and discuss the Vulcan Buildings in greater detail. The architectural presentation, a fabulous mix of periods and styles, is well worth the effort.
I'll bet all three are actually within your reach.
1. T/S control may be found within Photoshop. So, do it in post.
2. I'll bet you can find a local high school, or art school, student with a drone and for $10 or $20...
3. Print a leaflet with this photo and your URL asking if anyone on the upper floor(s) would allow you to take a photo from their apartment? Put the leaflet(s) in the vestibule or mailbox area or as close to the apartment doors as possible. One of them will bite.
Can't comment on the tree obscura issue... you'll just have to figure that one out yourself.
Best,
