Nighttime Getaway
The urban streetscape and architecture portions of my photographic portfolio have a fair representation of fire escapes. They are an iconic feature of the urban landscapes that I like to photograph.
Fire escapes have strong compositional elements — powerful diagonals and pattern repetition — and in the right light often cast evocative shadows.
With this image I have come back to a set of fire escapes, located in Khartoum Square in Auckland’s central city, that I have photographed before, although during daylight hours.
The alleys off of Queen Street are riddled with this staple of a dated urban architecture.
