Dominion Road Eateries
Stretching north/side along the Auckland [Tāmaki] isthmus, Dominion Road is a major road arterial in Auckland.
The road has bragging rights: In a city whose inhabitants truly love their cars and go to great lengths to shun other modes of mobility, Dominion Road conveys on a daily basis more Aucklanders by public transport, notably buses, than cars. It is a noteworthy brag.
Furthermore, against the backdrop of a diverse commercial presence one would expect to find along a major thoroughfare, Dominion Road is replete with eateries of such varied ethnic/national origins that the road is known by the epithet: "the United Nations of restaurants."
The segment of Dominion Road in the suburb of Balmoral is home to an astounding number of Asian, mostly Chinese, restaurants, including the only Uyghur cuisine eatery in all of New Zealand.
I have heard the area referred to as 'Auckland's Chinatown.'
The fabulous culinary delights vie with the visual playfulness of its storefronts for one's attention. The visual allure is especially appealing at night.
