colourful building facade - Greys Avenue
Greys Avenue (known as Grey Street until 1927) is one of Auckland’s oldest roads. Lined much of its length with London plane trees, the leafy street traverses a path from Auckland Town Hall to Pitt Street just north of Karangahape Street. In researching the street’s history, I came across an essay by Paula Morris, creative writer and director of the Master in Creative Writing programme at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. She offers, in a Metro Magazine essay from 2017, an engaging overview of the avenue’s provenance.
Against the background of Greys Avenue’s storied past, today’s photograph presents a modern take on its streetscape - a colourful building facade I always enjoy passing on my way to K Road.
