Vulcan Lane at High Street
My attraction to the intimate charm of narrow city streets never wanes.
The intersection of High Street and Vulcan Lane is a particular favourite spot of mine for photography. In late afternoon light dances on High Street, reminding me of fireflies on a warm summer evening in Kentucky. As the afternoon sun recedes in the west, dramatic lines illuminate Vulcan Lane and its neighbouring street Durham Street East, etching polygonal blocks of light and shadow, precisely honed, onto street and building face.
It is a particularly magical time of day to chase light, especially with an interest to produce photographs in black & white.
That said, the colours in today’s photograph atop the page, looking up Vulcan Street to its gateway at High Street, are expressively soft and sultry.
