food court - Auckland Fish Market
New Year’s Day and hospitality slept. Revelry had played its hand and well-earned rest for the front line ensued.
A few stalls in the food court of the Auckland Fish Market were open, staffed by cooks and servers who looked as bedraggled as their fish must have been on deck a fishing trawler after a brave fight ensnared in a fishing net.
One stall, abandoned by its crew for the public holiday, was a photographic gem. I was drawn to it by vibrant and contrasting colours masked in gossamer textures, all awash in soft light, and languid patterns on glazed tiles in frenetic motion.
In post-processing, I enjoyed restoring a golden lustre to the cooking pots. The photographic ‘rule of thirds’ guided my composition choices. The viewer might also take note of how I attempted to match the intensity of light across the diagonal quadrants of the image.
