College Hill front porch
Freeman's Bay is a small suburb nestled between Ponsonby and the Victoria Quarter district of central Auckland. A land reclamation project completed in 1901 created the suburb out of the Freeman's Bay waterway.
While for much of the subsequent 100 years the suburb was known as a dispirited area of Auckland, Freeman's Bay is today a gentrified suburb with renovated homes selling for as much as $3,000,000.
College Hill Road runs the length of Freeman's Bay from Ponsonby Road to Beaumont Street.
The College Hill house whose front porch is pictured in this photograph has retained its subdued fin de siècle charm. Modern touches include the colourful, if not oddly placed, furniture featured on its front porch.
