NZ visual diary - entry 67
contest of inclines
I love the fabric of urban infrastructure - water tanks on the roofs of older buildings; fire escapes like the ones depicted in this image; service boxes and exterior lighting, among other elements of a building's bones.
And then there is my embarrassing fetish for almost any form of exterior architectural ornamentation.
It is why, following the advice of my university colleague and friend Karl Raitz, I always circle the perimeter of a building I find interesting. Some of the best stuff can only be found on the rear facades of buildings.
This image is illustrative of Karl's observation.
