Freyberg Square - Wednesday gathering
A recently renovated public square in the heart of the city, Freyberg Square attracts a multitude of people - musicians and other artists, skateboarders, a daily luncheon crowd, crowds who gather on the square's steps to enjoy the sun on an early Spring day.
Every Wednesday at 5pm a local church sets up a makeshift ministry and, against the backdrop of church members who offer testimony to the experience of Christ in their lives, lay clergy provide social services - food, haircuts, healthcare and other supports.
I stood at one edge of the square and observed. These wary spectators caught my eye.
