Team New Zealand - Americas Cup Headquarters

Team New Zealand - Americas Cup headquarters looms large along the harbour front. It sits aside the New Zealand Maritime Museum on the Viaduct Harbour. Both buildings are architectural marvels.

Rugby is surely the people's sport in New Zealand. The All Blacks are the iconic sports team. There is an indescribable thrill when the All Blacks take to the rugby pitch and perform the pre-game ritual of the Haka. The team's performance in a match is equally compelling.

That said, the Americas Cup is New Zealand's glamour sport. Team New Zealand successfully defended its trophy in 2021, and I divided my time, fixated as I was on the event, between screen and viewing areas in the Wynyard Quarter. Four teams competed in the initial round of the event for the prize of the Prada Cup. In the final round, New Zealand defended its title against Italy. New Zealand defeated the Italian team 7-3.
